  2. Atkins brand or any other brand...it doesn't matter. Not only will the carb free candy give most people "the trots," it usually stalls them, or at the very least can cause major cravings for more. I've seen it a hundred times...people come to the board..."why am I stalled? I eat shakes for breakfast and bars for lunch and carb free chocolates for dessert, and I just don't understand.". "Ahhh"...we veterans say..."another one bites the dust." Sugar alcohols are a funny thing. No one knows just how to count the carbs because everyone's body handles them differently. Glycerine is also suspect. Its main job is to hold water...and it does. If you MUST have them, use them for emergencies only, and limit them to ONE A DAY. The whole point of Atkins is to eat HEALTHY, REAL, UNPROCESSED FOOD. I mean, he had to make a little money from the public somewhere. But trust me on this one. You'll thank me later.

  3. I hate vegetables. Do I have to eat them?
I thought you didn't eat vegetables on Atkins.

  4. Make no mistake. Vegetables are an essential part of the Atkins program. You may have heard people say that you don't eat veggies on the Atkins WOL. Please don't mention this on the main board, or you may get pounced on. If you already have, then lick your wounds and read on. If you have read "the book," then you know how important veggies are to the Atkins plan. Yes, vegetables contain carbs, but it's the type of carbs you should be consuming. In fact, most of your carbs should be coming from veggies. It's where your vitamins and nutrients come from. Vegetables should be your main source of carbohydrates. But choose them wisely. All veggies are not the same. You should look for veggies that are high in fiber, low on the glycemic index, and nutrient dense. Try a new veggie every now and then. You can't be successful without them, and you'll be able to look Grandma in the eye.

  5. I've been on the diet three weeks, and I've only lost 6 pounds...I think I'm stalled.
My friend lost a lot more on induction than I did.

  6. First of all, lets look at what a stall is. A stall is going four weeks without a new low on the scale or on the measuring tape. If you haven't gone a month yet, then please don't ask this question on the board. We all want to be thin right now, but face it...it didn't get packed on overnight, and it ain't gonna come off overnight either. ANY NEW LOW means that you are losing. My personal motto is "Fast and fragile, slow and solid." Don't compare your loss to another person's. Any downward trend is success.

  7. I just started Induction. Why do I feel like crap? Top

  8. Trust me. This too shall pass. We veterans call it "Induction flu." It's a very real thing. When you take something away from your body that it wants, then you will have withdrawal. Headaches, fatigue, mild nausea, brain fog, and a general achy feeling are all common. A temperature and vomiting are not part of induction flu, so if you have these symptoms, you are most likely really sick. Just take it easy for the first few days, don't forget your Tylenol, drink lots of water, and by the end of the first week at the latest, you should be feeling friskier than ever.

  9. People say I will die of a heart attack if I stay on Atkins too long. Top

  10. News Flash: Dr. Atkins was first and foremost a cardiologist. He died of a head injury he got while walking to WORK in his 70's. Anyone who tells you this has obviously not bothered to do much research about the plan. Ask them for the study that proves this. There are none. But there are more and more studies that prove that Dr. A knew exactly what he was talking about. I'm just sorry he didn't live to see it.

  11. I've been on induction since I started, and I'm not losing anymore. Top

  12. Move onto OWL. Induction has two purposes. The first purpose is to prove that you can lose weight. The second purpose is to get your body into ketosis. That's it. DANDR says that you can stay on induction for up to six months safely, but the veterans on this board can testify to the fact that most people do stop losing on induction. The cure? Move onto OWL. I know you may think that eating more will not be beneficial, but you will be pleasantly surprised. Trust the plan, and work the plan the way it was written. Induction is not the whole plan. Move on and find your CCLL.

  13. If 20 carbs is good, then 10 must be even better, and none must be Nirvana!! Top

  14. Hmmm...if you are asking this question, then I must respond with the overused, but appropriate "Have you read the book?" Keeping your carb level too low can inadvertently reset your CCLL too low. Who wants a CCLL of zero? Keep it at 20 carbs a day, and move up the ladder the way Dr. Atkins intended, and you will have a much better chance of success.

  15. Can I lose X amount of pounds by next Tuesday? Top

  16. Wouldn't it be wonderful? But I'm sure you know the answer to that question. Everyone is different, and there is no way to tell. You can expect some loss during induction, but there is just no way to know how much.

  17. I HATE exercising...do I have to? Top

  18. It's not negotiable. If you aren't getting regular exercise, you are not doing Atkins. You may be able to lose weight, but it isn't recommended. Not only does it elevate your metabolic rate, but it increases your muscle mass, therefore increasing the amount of energy you expend just to keep functioning. Plus, you'll feel great, look better, and make your heart healthier as well. JUST DO IT!

  19. What is Ketosis? Top

  20. Everything you ever wanted to know about ketosis is in this article. Ketosis and Ketones

  21. When I start eating carbs again will I regain the weight? Top

  22. YES! How do you think you got here in the first place? Read the book and follow the plan. Dr. Atkins put all 3 levels of the plan in the book for a reason. Maintenance is where you practice what you can and can't eat. Live and learn.
